Chiba-ken is located on the south east of Kanto area bordering Tokyo and Saitama to the north west, Ibaraki to the north, Tokyo bay to the west, and the Pacific ocean to the east. The climate is very warm with an oceanic climate. Since it is surrounded by the ocean, the area is comfortable to live with the cool climate in summer and warm in winter.

Chiba is well known for Tokyo Disney Resort and Narita airport. In addition, Chiba has a number of tourism attractions such as coasts, beaches, parks and natural environment. Chiba can be mainly divided into four areas, north, west, east and west parts. Each area has characteristic tourism sites. Especially the east part, which borders the Pacific Ocean, is famous for its beaches. The area has a number of beaches and actually Chiba has the second largest number of beaches in Japan. In summer, those beaches attract many visitors from the other part of Japan. Many people enjoy swimming, sunbathing and various kinds of marine sports and activities.

Kujukuri beach is one of the most popular beaches in Chiba. In 2009, this beach had the largest number of visitors of all beaches in Chiba. The beach is the second longest beach in Japan extending across 66km. The name Kujuku means Ninety Nine and ri is the old unit of length, 1 ri is equivalent to approximately 650-660m. In the old days when they tried to measure the length, they used arrows to measure putting one arrow every ri, and ninety nine arrows were placed. That’s how this beach got the name. The Kujukuri beach is also famous for popular surfing spot.
